The City of Universal City has designated a 1.9 acre tract for parkland along Athenian Drive, just north of Pat Booker Road. Based on recommendations from the Parks and Recreation Commission, City leaders determined the land should be used as an ornamental park to include a dog park, walking trail, benches, and playground.
Although an off-leash dog park is a high priority in the Park Master Plan, currently there is no funding for the dog park in the city budget. Therefore, the Universal City approach will be used to create the people and Dog Park as funding becomes available. Once the park is established, the City of Universal City Public Works Department will take over the maintance of the park.
Our Aim is to see Phase 1 of the park opened in June 2011 with Phase 2 to be completed as funds become available. We look forward to seeing an off-leash dog park become a reality sooner rather than later for Universal City.
And hopefully the park should be open for business before Memorial Day.
